The Port Kennedy was launched in 1965 in Auckland, built by Mason Brothers for Subritzky Shipping Line. The versatile ship back then was built for the Waiheke service and was the first powered vehicular passenger vessel to ply to the Island. The vessel had a major role in the development of all of the inner harbor Hauraki Gulf islands.40 years later the vessel has had a total refit and ready for another 40 years. Brett Subritzky Grandson of the Founder Bert Subritzky along with marketing Guru Darcy Hart has formed Waiheke Shipping. The Port Kennedy is one of three vessels they have launched in the past 6 months to cater for the increasing trade in the Hauraki Gulf. The Port Kennedy has been a familiar site in newspapers for the past couple of decades carrying houses to popular holiday destinations such as Coromandel, Bay of Islands, Waiheke and Great Barrier Islands.
